Mean Girls writer Tina Fey
New Line Cinema has appointed Beth McCarthy-Miller to direct 'Mean Girls'-like comedy 'Mean Moms'.
The movie is based on a book by Rosalind Wiseman, who also wrote 'Queen Bees and Wannabes' - which 2004's 'Mean Girls' was adapted from - and it's thought the film will be in a similar vein to the Lindsay Lohan-starring comedy, although not a direct sequel.
'Mean Moms' will be adapted from 'Queen Bee Moms and King Pin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches and Counselors Who Can Make - or Break - Your Child's Future', and the script is currently being rewritten by Sean Anders and John Morris.
According to Deadline, the forthcoming film is about a happily married mother of two who moves from a small town in America to the lavish suburbs where she comes face to face with grown-up mean girls in the form of her fellow suburban housewives.
Producers are hoping to land A-list actresses to star in the comedy caper, but no names are attached yet.
'Mean Girls' - which was a major hit upon its release in 2004 - starred Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert and Tina Fey, who also wrote the script.
McCarthy-Miller is best known for directing TV shows, but collaborated with Fey on 'Mean Girls' after they previously worked together on 'Saturday Night Live'.
