We were introduced to the character of Black Panther for the first time in Civil War, as Chadwick Boseman took on the role. And we are already looking ahead to the character's solo film.

The movie will hit the big screen in 2018 and sees Ryan Coogler in the director's chair for his first Marvel film. As well as being at the helm, Coogler has also teamed up with Joe Robert Cole to pen the film's screenplay.

Talking to Slashfilm, Cole reveals that the Black Panther story will pick up after what happened in Civil War. He said: "Our standalone movie will begin shortly after Civil War ends," he told Slashfilm. "So we'll be able to see him mourning and him starting to take command as king of his own nation. Lots of things are going to occur within regards to that.

"The country will be under threat from inside and out, so we'll learn what Wakanda is, that nation, as the most technologically advanced nation on the planet. Also, as Wakanda's rise to prominence happens, it will affect the MCU moving forward, which is really exciting."

Coogler is one of the most exciting directors around and has already enjoyed success with Fruitvale Station and Creed. This is the biggest film of his career and is already one of the most anticipated Marvel films on the schedule.

The director is starting to assemble an impressive cast as Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, and Daniel Gurira will star alongside Boseman.

It has also been announced that Jordan will play villain Erik Killmonger and Nyong'o is on board as T'Challa's love interest Nakia.

It is still not clear if we will be seeing the character of Black Panther on the cast list for Avengers: Infinity War - but it does seem a strong possibility that this character will be on board.

Black Panther is released 6th July 2018.
