Filming on Bourne 5 has got underway and we have already seen the first image of Matt Damon on set.

Damon is back in the title role for the first time since The Bourne Ultimatum back in 2007 as he reunites with director Paul Greengrass. For fans, this is a day that many thought would never come.

Earlier this year it was announced that Damon and Greengrass were set to return to the franchise and it hasn't taken long to get this project up and running.

Frank Marshall is serving as producer on the film and took to Twitter to celebrate the start of filming... 'Bourne is back.'

The new Bourne film is currently untitled and will be the first film in the series since The Bourne Legacy back in 2012.

There are plenty of new faces to watch out for this time around as Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassell and Tommy Lees Jones are all on board. Cassell is set to play the villain in the film, but nothing is yet known about the roles of Vikander and Jones.

Julia Stiles is one of the returning names as she'll reprise her role of Nicky; the actress has been with the franchise since the beginning.

While a new film with Damon is going ahead, it looks like Jeremy Renner will also be getting a sequel to The Bourne Legacy - at the moment, that is a completely separate project. Since Renner took on the role of Aaron Cross, there has been a lot of talk about a crossover that would seen Damon and Renner join forces. I guess we are going to have to wait and see if that is on the horizon.

Bourne 5 is released 29th July 2016.
