From HBO Max and New Line Cinema comes a charming, hilarious tale of childhood that focuses on the struggles of getting the gifts you want for Christmas.

As soon as Halloween ends, it seems that Christmas moves in the very next day. There have been a few festive trailers released already this year (2021), and there will likely be more to come.

8-Bit Christmas will be available on digital download later this month (November, 2021), and is one of a few festive films releasing in November, 2021.

The film is set in suburban Chicago in the late 1980s, and centres on ten-year-old Jake Doyle’s mission to get the newest and best video game console for Christmas.

Starring in the movie is Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) as the adult version of Jake, and Winslow Fegley (Come Play) plays the young version.

All Jake wanted when he was a kid was to get his hands on a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the best console ever (at the time) that was on everyone’s Christmas lists.

It seems that Harris’ version of Jake is retelling the story of his struggle to get an NES to his daughter; he appears to have gone through a lot to get the latest and greatest system of the 80s.

The trailer shows the wonderous world of gaming, and the rush to get the newest things. Despite the desperation shows by the children wanting an NES, the trailer still highlights not only the magic of Christmas, but how magical that time of the year can be.

Joining Harris and Fegley, 8-Bit Christmas stars June Diane Raphael (Long Shot, Grace and Frankie), David Cross (Pitch Perfect 2, the Kung Fu Panda franchise), and Steve Zahn (The White Lotus).

Michael Dowse (Coffee & Kareem) directed the film from a screenplay by Kevin Jakubowski, based on his book of the same name. Tim White, Trevor White, Allan Mandelbaum, Jonathan Sadowski and Nick Nantell produced, with Nikki Ramey, Richard Brener, Celia Khong, Kevin Jakubowski and Whitney Brown executive producing. 8-Bit Christmas will be available for digital download from November 26th, 2021.
