Bryan Singer believes that there's 'plenty of room' to crossover Deadpool with X-Men but it is something that would have to be done 'gently.'

Deadpool was first introduced as part of the X-Men universe when he appeared in X-Men: Origins Wolverine back in 2009. Earlier this year, this character got his own solo movie, which has gone on to be both a critical success as well as a commercial smash.

Singer is back in the director's chair this month with X-Men: Apocalypse, which is the fourth X-Men film of his career and his first since the success of X-Men: Days of Future Past back in 2014.

While Singer believes that there would be some issues in bringing these two franchises, together he tells Variety that it could be done. He said: "If you take a character as irreverent and meta as Deadpool and connect him to something as grounded and serious as X-Men, you have to do it carefully and gently.

"When you drop them all in together it can be a disaster. That has to be done delicately, but there's plenty of room to do it."

Deadpool is one of the highest-grossing films of the year and the most successful R-rated film ever. It has gone on to gross more than any other X-Men movie to date.

A Deadpool sequel has already been given the green light and Reynolds has expressed an interest in appearing in an X-Force film.

The first reviews for X-Men: Apocalypse have split the critics and really have been a mixed bag of praise and criticism.

It has already been revealed that another film is in the pipeline and will be set in the nineties. However, Simon Kinberg did not reveals who would star and who would be in the director's chair for the project. There is a New Mutants project in the pipeline and he could be referring to this - we are just going to have to wait and see.

X-Men: Apocalypse is released 18th May and Deadpool is released on DVD & Blu-ray 13th June.
