Bryan Singer will be back in the director's chair for X-Men: Apocalypse.

Singer has already started work on the screenplay to the next X-Men film, but his future as director was a little uncertain.

Simon Kinberg was asked by the Daily Beast if we would be seeing Singer back in the director's chair he said: 'That's the plan'.

Singer returned to the X-Men franchise with X-Men: Days of Future Past: which has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office this weekend.

This is the first X-Men movie that Singer has helmed since the success of X2 back in 2003.

Days of Future Past has grossed $302 million at the global box office in it's first week of release, and is set to be one of the biggest movies of the summer.

Singer has already teamed up with Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris to pen the screenplay, and the film and will focus primarily on the younger generation of superheroes, including Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and James McAvoy's Professor X, but will also feature the older characters like Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' is set for release on May 27, 2016.
