Cate Blanchett is to make her debut as a director in 'The Dinner'.

The 44-year-old actress has been signed up to direct the adaptation of Herman Koch's best-selling novel, which explores the psychological side of just how far some parents may go to protect their children, but it is not yet known whether she will star in the movie as well, according to Deadline.

The thriller will be adapted and penned by Oren Moverman, and Cotty Chubb is producing through his ChubbCo banner, while Eva Maria Daniels and Olga Segura will act as executive producers.

The story will be set in Amsterdam and revolve around two brothers, one of which is running for Prime Minister of Netherlands, who must deal with their teenage sons after they discover they have committed an awful crime.

Blanchett is no stranger to directing after spending the last five years as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company alongside her husband Andrew Upton, but this will be the first movie she has conducted on her own.

The blonde beauty will next be seen starring in Woody Allen's upcoming movie 'Blue Jasmine' where she features alongside Alec Baldwin as she plays a housewife who doubts her life choices when faced with a crisis.
