The Marvel franchise has signed up some of Hollywood's biggest actors in recent years and the Oscar winner could be set to join that very impressive list.

Variety have reported that Blanchett is in very early talks for a role in Thor: Ragnarok - however, it has not be revealed with role she could possibly play.

This would be the first time that Blanchett has stepped into the Marvel Universe and I think that she would be a terrific addition to the movie.

The movie would sees Blanchett star alongside fellow Aussie Chris Hemsworth, who is set to reprise the title role in the third stand alone film for the popular character.

We already know that Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo are on board as Loki and Hulk. This is the first Marvel film for Hiddleston since Thor: The Dark World and this will be the first time that we have see Hulk outside of the Marvel franchise.

Taika Waititi will be in the director's chair for the film and Stephany Folsom has penned the screenplay.

Shooting should get underway next year for the 2017 release. Thor: Ragnarok will be the third of three films to be released that year and will come after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Spider-Man.

As for Blanchett, her latest movie Carol has been met with acclaim and she has received best Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards this week. She is also expected to be in the Oscar race once again.

The actress has also completed work on Truth and an untitled Terrence Malick movie. She is currently working on Jungle Book: Origins, where she will bring the character of Kaa to life.
