The 36-year-old actor unveiled a new buzz cut at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday (29.03.17) and revealed he had been hoping to unveil his trim physique in the upcoming superhero film in which he stars as United States Army Air Service Captain Steve Trevor a love interest for the titular character played by Gal Gadot but director Patty Jenkins decided what he really needed was lots of clothes.

In an interview with 'Entertainment Tonight', he said: "I got in incredible shape for this film. I was also wearing about 75 pounds of clothing. Patty has a fetish, you just, like, wear a lot of clothing like coats, winter sweaters. What I realised is that I made a major mistake, I got in great shape and they just put clothes over all my hard work!"

When quizzed on the motivation for his drastic new haircut, he spilled: "I think it was just sheer boredom that and the idea of a clean slate, a blank slate, and the New Year. [I'm] starting things anew."

Wasted gym hours aside, Pine is delighted to be part of the movie which he has described as a "classic love story done well".

The film is based on the back story of Wonder Woman - Amazon Princess Diana Prince - and her journey to become a protector of Earth.

Pines - who is famous for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the rebooted 'Star Trek' franchise - has nothing but praise for Jenkins for pulling together lots of different genres in one movie.

He said: "I just look at it that I got a chance to spend time with people I love with a story that I really, really, really ... I just fell in love with it, and really, love is at the center of the film. I think what Patty did so intelligently, was she married all these different genres and the beating heart of this film is a real love story, which I don't think we've seen in the superhero canon recently. I think it hearkens back to what Patty loved in the first Superman, and it's just a classic love story and a classic story done well."

'Wonder Woman' hits cinemas in June and it will be followed by the next Warner Bros. Pictures and DCEU film 'Justice League' in November, which will see Wonder Woman reunited with Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) and joined by The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
