Corey Feldman has suggested that a planned Goonies sequel may never go ahead.

Feldman took on the role of Mouth in the 1985 movie, which has gone on to become a kid's classic - it is a movie that I just loved growing up.

In the last couple of years, there has been a lot of talk about a possible sequel and director Richard Donner announced that the project would be going ahead.

However, talk of Goonies 2, which would reunite the original characters years later, has gone very quiet this year and Feldman has thrown doubt on it ever going ahead.

Speaking to Movieweb about the film, the actor said: "Richard Donner is 87 years old. And it's like, no one really wants to make it without him. He's the driving force behind it. He says it's still alive. But as we all know... When you get to that age, things slow down quite a bit. There is a big possibility that he might not want to keep driving it. So, I think without him, it doesn't happen. And every day that passes, that he doesn't do it, there is less and less chance that it is ever going to happen at all...

"It could have a very bad backlash! At the end of the day, and I have said this before, the only way a Goonies sequel happens, and is forgivable to the fan base... Is if it is done right. And what does that look like? Obviously, I don't know. Because I'm not Steven Spielberg, I'm not Richard Donner, I'm not Chris Columbus. Those are the guys that make this decision. I know that they are all geniuses. And I implore nothing but the highest levels of respect and trust for their process and what they do. If, at the time, they want my opinion, I will certainly be happy to give it to them."

Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Jonathan Ke Quan took on the central roles of Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Andy, Stef and Data, a group of friends who find themselves following a map to find a pirate's ancient treasure.

I have to admit, I have never been a fan of the idea of a possible sequel, mainly because I am such a big fan of the first. A second film could never quite catch the magic of the first and I think it is something that should be left well alone.

Will a Goonies 2 film project go ahead, I guess we are going to have to wait and see.
