The Oscar-winning 'La La Land' director has written a mystery thriller and it's just been announced that Oceanside Media's Scott Clayton will produce the picture with Route One Entertainment's Russell Levine and Leon Clarance from Motion Picture Capital, which is also fully financing the film.

Clayton told Deadline: "I am excited to be partnering with Route One and Motion Picture Capital to produce this amazing project from Damien Chazelle. He has written a mesmerising and bone-chilling thriller confirming his talent as a truly versatile screenwriter. We look forward to bringing this haunting film to audiences around the world."

Production is expected to start later this year with the view of releasing in 2018 as talks are underway with an American distributor.

'The Claim' is based on a single dad who has a criminal background and must uncover the whereabouts of his kidnapped daughter while tackling claims of another couple who insist the child is theirs.

Levine added: "We've been looking for just the right partners to join us in making The Claim and we've got them in Oceanside and MPC. This is one of Damien's best scripts and now we have a great team to bring it home."

Route One has been involved with the project since the script made the 2010 Black List.

Chazelle - who was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for La La Land's original script and for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for 2014's 'Whiplash' - is not attached as a director for 'The Claim'.

Instead, his next project is steering the Neil Armstrong moon-landing movie 'First Man' with Ryan Gosling which is set to be released on October 12, 2018.
