Erin Cressida Wilson - who penned the 'The Girl on the Train' screenplay - is in talks to write the script for the forthcoming film, which will feature new original songs.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are on board to write the music for the project and 'Mary Poppins Returns' producer Marc Platt will take on the same role on the 'Snow White' movie.

This news comes 79 years after Disney's original 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' film was released in 1937.

The movie was nominated for Best Musical Score at the 10th Academy Awards, and the American Film Institute named the motion picture as the greatest US animated film of all time in 2008.

Adriana Caselotti voiced young princess Snow White, while Lucille La Verne was the Evil Queen and Harry Stockwell lent his vocal talents to the role of The Prince.

There have been several other 'Snow White' adaptations since, including the recent 2012 movie 'Mirror Mirror', which starred Lily Collins as the main character and Julia Roberts as evil stepmother Queen Clementianna.

Kristen Stewart took on the iconic main role in 2012 movie 'Snow White and the Huntsman', in which Charlize Theron played evil stepmother Queen Ravenna and Chris Hemsworth starred as Eric, the Huntsman.

The traditional story is based on the Germany fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm which sees lonely princess Snow White forced to work as a scullery maid for her wicked stepmother before she is revived by the Prince.
