We are big fans of Helen Mirren here at FemaleFirst and she is set to return to the big screen next year with war film Eye in the Sky.

Eye In The Sky

Eye In The Sky

We are going to see the Oscar winner take on a military commander in a movie that explores the hunt for terrorists and the use of drone strikes - I really cannot wait to see her in action.

Eye in the Sky sees Gavin Hood back in the director's chair as he teams up with Mirren for the first time. Guy Hibbert is also on board, having penned the screenplay.

We are going to have to wait until April for the release of the film, but the brand new UK trailer for Eye in the Sky has dropped. Check it out:

Hood has brought us movies such as Tsotsi, Rendition, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine during his career and Eye in the Sky sees him back for the first time since Ender's Game back in 2013.

Mirren is set to lead an all-star cast as Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi, Jeremy Northam, Iain Glen, and Phoebe Fox are all on board.

London-based military intelligence officer Colonel Katherine Powell (Mirren) is remotely commanding a top secret drone operation to capture a group of dangerous terrorists from their safe-house in Nairobi, Kenya. The mission suddenly escalates from a 'capture' to a 'kill' operation as Powell realizes that the terrorists are about to embark on a deadly suicide mission.

From his base in Nevada, American drone pilot Steve Watts (Paul) is poised to destroy the safe-house when a nine year old girl enters the kill zone just outside the walls of the house. With unforeseen collateral damage now entering the equation, the impossible decision of when to strike gets passed up the 'kill chain' of politicians and lawyers as the seconds tick down.

Over the last few years, we have seen string of movies and documentaries explore drone warfare and I cannot wait to see what Hood delivers with Eye in the Sky.

Eye In the Sky is released 8th April.
