The Artist

The Artist

The Artist leads the way at this year’s British Academy Film Awards after receiving a whopping twelve nominations.

The silent film, directed by French director Michael Hazanavicius, is the 13/8 favourite with Paddy Power to win Best Picture while Hazanavicius is the 9/4 second favourite to pick up the BAFTA for Best Director.

The odds on the romantic masterpiece, which was a big hit at this year’s Golden Globes, scooping both major awards are 11/2 with Paddy Power.

In other categories, Paddy Power make George Clooney their 8/15 favourite over Jean Dujardin in the Best Actor category and Golden Globe winner Meryl Streep their 8/11 tip to win Best Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher.

Meanwhile, there’s very little between Simon Curtis’s My Week With Marilyn at 10/11 and Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy at 7/4 to scoop the accolade for Outstanding British Film.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "If any movie stands out this year it has got to be The Artist. With a Golden Globe already under its belt, an Oscar very likely and now a BAFTA in the pipeline The Artist has proved that silence really is golden!"

Hosted by Stephen Fry, the BAFTA Awards will broadcast Live from London on Sunday 12 February.
