Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman has described receiving his first Oscar nomination at 'humbling' and 'gratifying'.

Oldman has picked up a Best Actor nomination for his role as George Smiley in spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "This afternoon in Berlin I have learned that I was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor.

"You may have heard this before, but it has never been truer than it is for me today, it is extremely humbling, gratifying, and delightful to have your work recognised by the Academy, and to join the celebrated ranks of previous nominees and colleagues. Amazing."

The adaptation of the John le Carre novel hit the big screen last year and Oldman was joined by an all star cast that included Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Oldman will be back on the big screen this summer as she reprises the role of Jim Gordon in The Dark Knight Rises.
