the full programme for the prestigious festival will be announced on 20th January, but the Opening and Closing Gala films have finally been revealed.

Hail, Caesar

Hail, Caesar

Hail, Caesar! is the latest film from director Joel and Ethan Coen and is set to kick the festival off in fine style. As usual, the filmmakers have assembled a fantastic cast as George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, and Channing Tatum are just some of the great names that are on board.

Hail, Caesar! takes place during the latter years of Hollywood's Golden Age, during the studio system's heyday and is set in the single day in the life of a studio fixer... who has plenty of problems on his hands.

The Coen brothers are on writing as well as directing duties and this will be their first film since of Inside Llewyn Davis back at the beginning of 2014.

Hail, Caesar will open the Glasgow Film Festival on Wednesday 17th February and will be hot off the heels of its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film will be released in cinemas at the beginning of March.

Anomalisa is an animation film that has already been whipping up a storm of the festival circuit and it will close the Glasgow Film Festival on the 28th February.

Anomalisa is the latest offering from filmmaker Charlie Kaufman, as he makes the leap into animation film. As well as being in the director's chair, Kaufman has also penned the film's screenplay while David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Tom Noonan have lent their voices to the film.

Anomalisa has already been nominated for Best Animated Feature at this weekend's Golden Globe Awards and could be in the mix when the Oscar nominations are announced. Anomalisa will be released in UK cinemas on 11th March.

Tickets for both films will go on sale to the public on Monday 18th January. The full festival programme will be announced on Wednesday 20 January and go on sale on Monday 25 January.

The Glasgow Film Festival 2016 will run from 17th - 28th February.
