James McAvoy says he knows very little about X-Men: Apocalypse, except that he is going to be older and losing his hair.

McAvoy returned to the role of Charles Xavier earlier this year with X-Men: Days of Future Past, and work on the next film is already under way.

And while McAvoy will reprise the role of Xavier in the film, he admits that he hasn't been told anything about the project yet.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, McAvoy said: "I'll be older in this one. And I think I'm losing my hair finally. And, yeah, that's kind of all I know.

"I got an email from the [producer and writer] Simon Kinberg who informed me he was getting dead excited about stuff, but he didn't want to divulge anything for a couple of weeks, so I really don't know."

Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult are all back as Mystique, Magneto, and Beast, while Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum have both been linked to the project.

Jackman teamed up with McAvoy, Fassbender, Lawrence, and Hoult for the first time with Days of Future Past as the original X-Men franchise met the new.

Tatum has also been linked with the role of Gambit - however, it is not certain if he will be introduced in this movie.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is one of the most successful films of 2014 so far, as it grossed in excess of $745 million at the global box office.

It is currently the third highest grossing film of the year, behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and Maleficent.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for a 19th may 2016 release.
