Leto has taken over the iconic role in the latest DC Comic movie, which has hit the big screen this weekend.

And while the Joker may be one of the cinema's biggest villains, the Oscar-winning actor reveals that fun was a 'crucial' part to this role.

The actor was on the red carpet for the European premiere in London earlier this week, where he talked about the role: "I think it was the role of a lifetime. I had so much fun playing this part and I was so honoured to have been asked.

"This is a character with no rules and I think that fun is one of the crucial parts to the Joker; a little bit of chaos and it does help if you are a little bit of a psychopath as well."

The movie sees Leto star alongside Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis and teams up with filmmaker David Ayer for the first time.

This is also the first time that we have seen Leto on the big screen since his Oscar-winning turn in Dallas Buyers Club, which saw him pick up the Best Supporting Actor gong for his performance.

The actor has also been linked to roles in Berlin, I Love You and The Outsider.

Suicide Squad is out now.
