Jeff Wadlow has been hired to write 'X-Men' spin-off movie, 'X-Force'.

The 'Kick-Ass 2' writer-and-director is re-teaming with 20th Century Fox to pen a script for the new mutant superhero film and may also direct, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

'X-Men' franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner will produce the film for the studio.

'X-Force' is based on the comic book series of the same name, which is a spin-off of the 'X-Men' comics, and centres on a group of younger, more rebellious heroes than the characters in its parent franchise.

The superhero team is led by a futuristic character called Cable, who is related to 'X-Men' characters Cyclops and Jean Grey and possesses robotic body parts and telekinetic powers.

The comic book series was launched by Rob Liefeld in 1991 and it has since been through several incarnations. Currently, there are two 'X-Force' comic book series - 'Uncanny X-Force' and 'Cable and X-Force'.

Wadlow helmed the upcoming action blockbuster 'Kick-Ass 2', a sequel to the 2010 violent superhero flick 'Kick-Ass' starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz.

He is also writing another comic book movie, 'Bloodshot', for Sony Pictures.
