J.K. Simmons has hinted that we are going to see more of a 'badass' Commissioner Jim Gordon in Justice League.

Cameras have started rolling on the new Justice League film and the movie will see Simmons take on the role of Gordon for the first time - previously played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.

And it seems that we are going to see a tougher side to this character and a man who is more than capable of taking care of himself.

Speaking to EW, the actor said: "One of the things that's interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]...

"You're living in a universe where it's pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that's a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, 'Help! Help, Batman!'"

Justice League sees Zack Snyder back in the director's chair while Simmons will star alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Jason Momoa as they take on the roles of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

This will be the first time that the Justice League has been brought to the big screen and is already one of the most anticipated films of next year.

Simmons is currently one of the most in-demand actors around and has already completed work on La La Land, The Accountant, and The Snowman - all three are film projects that I cannot wait to see.

La La Land is a movie that is already being tipped as a potential Oscar contender and will see Simmons reunite with Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are also set to star.

Justice League is released 17th November 2017.
