Joel Edgerton is set to be cast in 'Red Sparrow' joining Jennifer Lawrence in the movie.

Edgerton has reportedly begun talks to star in the thriller based on Jason Matthews' spy novel.

According to Deadline, the feature will reunite 25-year-old Lawrence with 'Hunger Games' director Francis Lawrence who will be at the helm and Justin Hay has rewritten a script by 'American Hustle' scriptwriter Eric Warren Singer.

The novel takes place in modern day Russia, and centres on Dominika Egorova - played by Lawrence - who is forced to become a 'Sparrow', a trained seductress, in the post-Soviet intelligence service.

She is assigned to work against Nathaniel Nash - who will be played by Edgerton if the talks go well - a CIA officer, and the two clash until the sexual attraction kicks in and outs them both at risk.

The plot twists and Dominika is recruited by the CIA to uncover a traitor in Washington.

Edgerton can currently be seen in 'Loving' which revolves around a 1967 case that reversed laws banning inter-racial marriage.

Meanwhile Lawrence has two other movies due for release; 'Passengers' is a science fiction film that is directed by Morton Tyldum also stars Chris Pratt. It is due for release on 21 December 2016.

The 'X Men: Apocalypse' star is also currently filming Darren Aronofsky's 'Day 6', which is a drama featuring Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris.

That movie is due to hit cinemas on 29 December 2017.
