Johnny Depp says he was as close as he possibly could be to getting fired from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Depp has revealed that he walked a very think line with Disney at the beginning of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as they didn't like how he was portraying the character of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Speaking to Reveal the actor said: "I was probably as close to getting fired as anyone could ever be. They wanted to fire me so bad they could taste it.
"I spoke to one of the execs at the time and said, 'You're right, you should fire me - but you'll have to pay me for my time'.
"I approach all characters the same as Jack Sparrow. I add as much as I can get away with and, basically, I've been pretty lucky."
However, with Depp on board the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the most successful of all time. Not to mention Jack Sparrow is one of the greatest film characters of the last ten years.
A fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie is set to go ahead with Joachim Rønning, and Espen Sandberg in the director's chair.
The movie is set to hit the big screen in 2015.
