The 55-year-old actor has reprised his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the soon-to-be-released 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald', but Depp - who was accused of domestic violence by Amber Heard in her court filings prior to their divorce - has revealed he felt upset for the 'Harry Potter' writer.

Depp - who has denied the accusations of abuse - said to Entertainment Weekly: "JK has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused.

"That's why she has publicly supported me. She doesn't take things lightly."

Depp and the actress were married from 2015 until 2017, but he's always maintained his innocence.

The American star insisted JK has only supported his casting in the upcoming movie because she knows "the truth".

Some fans have threatened to boycott the movie over Depp's part in the production.

He said: "I felt bad for JK having to field all these various feelings from people out there. I felt bad that she had to take that."

JK previously admitted she considered recasting the role, but she insisted that she was ultimately comfortable with the decision to hire Depp.

And the Hollywood icon is determined to deliver a memorable performance for the fans of the franchise.

He said: "I hope to give them something they haven't seen before."
