Jurassic World

Jurassic World has beaten the record set by Fast & Furious 7 earlier this summer - which reached the $1 billion mark in seventeen days. The record was previously held by Avatar, Avengers Assemble, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 at nineteen days.

So far, Jurassic World has grossed $1.009 billion at the global box office and is the third highest grossing film of 2015 behind Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After just thirteen days, Jurassic World has not only become the fastest film to $1 billion, it is the twenty second film to break this barrier and it is already the twenty first highest grossing movie of all time. It's fair to say that Jurassic World will be a little higher up the all-time list by the end of its theatrical run.

The movie now has Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron in its sights to become the highest grossing movie of the year.

Jurassic World was predicted to be one of the biggest movies of the summer but the film, which is the fourth film in the popular Jurassic Park series, has outperformed most box office predictions. It is currently behind Jurassic Park on the all-time list - the classic is the seventeenth highest grossing movie at $1,029 billion - but that won't last for long.

2015 is turning into quite a year for Universal Pictures with the success of both Jurassic World and Fast & Furious 7 at the box office this summer - the studio could end up with the two highest grossing films of 2015 come the end of the year.

The studio also has Minions set for release later this summer - the first solo film for the popular creations from the Despicable Me movies - thee would be even more success on the horizon.
