Kate Beckinsale is back at the top of the U.S. box office as Underworld: Awakening is #1.

Underworld Awakening is the fourth movie in the hit franchise and sees Beckinsale reprise the role of vampire Selene.

When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.

The movie took $25.4 million in the opening weekend to storm to the top of the U.S. box office.

Red Tails, which was produced by George Lucas, was also new at two while Contraband fell two places from last week's number one.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which looks set to be an emotional watch, jumped up from number thirty six to number four.

Haywire was the third and final new entry on the chart this week and it was in at number five.

Beauty and the Beast 3D was down four places at six while Joyful Noise was also down three places to seven.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is week's biggest faller as it dropped five places from three to eight.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows also fell four to nine while The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo rounded off the top ten.
