Love & Friendship is set to be a period drama not to miss this weekend and a great new poster for the film has been released.

Love & Friendship

Love & Friendship

Love & Friendship is based on the novel Lady Susan by Jane Austen and sees Kate Beckinsale take on the central role.

We haven't seen too much of Beckinsale on the big screen in the last year and this is her first feature since Absolutely Anything - it is good to have her back.

Beckinsale is no stranger to the period drama or to the work of Austen - she played Emma in an adaptation of the novel of the same name - and it is great to see her return to this genre of film.

However, it is not all about Beckinsale as a fantastic supporting cast has been assembled. Chloë Sevigny is set to take on the role of Alice Johnson and is joined by Stephen Fry, Xavier Samuel, Emma Greenwell, James Fleet, and Jemma Redgrave.

Beautiful young widow Lady Susan Vernon (Beckinsale) visits the estate of her in-laws to wait out the colourful rumours about her dalliances circulating through polite society. Whilst ensconced there, she decides to secure a husband for herself and a future for her eligible but reluctant daughter, Frederica (Morfydd Clark).

In doing so, she attracts the simultaneous attentions of the young, handsome Reginald DeCourcy (Samuel), the rich and silly Sir James Martin (Tom Bennett) and the divinely handsome, but married, Lord Manwaring (Lochlann O'Mearain), complicating matters severely.

Love & Friendship was met with critical acclaim at this year's Sundance Film Festival and it is set to be a film not to miss if you are a fan of this genre.

Love & Friendship is released on Friday.
