Doctor Strange is the second of two Marvel movies to be released this year and is set to hit the big screen in October.

Mikkelsen is set to take on the villain in the film and has been talking about what kind of movie fans can expect. He reveals that the film will keep that 'different' feel that can be seen in the Doctor Strange comic books. But the actor admits that it is a story that audiences can still identify with.

Speaking to Yahoo!, the actor said: "If you look at the comic books, the comic books are quite different [to other Marvel stories]. I think that the film will be different from the other [Marvel] films that we've seen, but not as different as the books are, because that was basically the '60s and '70s - it was more like an acid trip.

"We've taken that fascination of the time into something we can relate to today... So you still have the energy, you still have the colours, you still have the madness, but you also have something you can identify with.

"I think that was a necessity - if not, you would just make a crazy film. But you still have it there - you have all the action, all the good ingredients you get in a Marvel film, but it will have a different flavour, that's for sure."

Doctor Strange is one of the new franchise of Phase 3 of Marvel films and will see Benedict Cumberbatch take on the title role for the first time.

Cumberbatch and Mikkelsen will be joined on the cast list by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, and Rachel McAdams. Scott Derrickson is in the director's chair for his first Marvel movie at the helm.

Mikkelsen has jumped from one big movie to another, as we are also going to be seeing him in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - which is filming re-shoots right now.

Doctor Strange is released 28th October.
