Marvel Studios have this weekend dropped the incredible first look teaser trailer for their upcoming movie release, Black Panther. Fronted for the first time by a superhero that isn’t a white man, the film is one that fans have been waiting for, for quite some time. Judging by the action on offer in this teaser, the payoff is going to be huge. Check it out below:

Chadwick Boseman hits the big screen as the titular character, with Ryan Coogler sitting in the Director’s Chair. Along with having a black lead, the film will be the first to have a predominantly black cast and will hopefully prove to Hollywood that putting a person of colour front and centre isn’t a gamble, but something they should be doing more of.

Introduced in Captain America: Civil War, the Black Panther aka T’Challa is the Prince of Africa’s Wakanda, but recently lost his father and so, presumably will be stepping up to claim the throne.

The official plot synopsis for the film reads: Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.

“But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.”

Black Panther hits cinemas across the UK on February 16, 2018.
