Matt Damon has joined the cast of 'Interstellar'.

The 'Bourne Supremacy' actor will appear in a small, undisclosed role in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi film, which he will shoot in Iceland for two weeks.

According to The Playlist, the motion picture will follow a team of space travellers going through a wormhole and Damon will feature alongside a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Sir Michael Caine and Jessica Chastain.

Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, David Oyelowo, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn and Bill Irwin are also lined up to appear in 'Interstellar', which is due for release in US cinemas in November 2014, while a UK date is still to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old actor is tipped to make his directorial debut in international conspiracy thriller 'A Foreigner', which is inspired by a 2008 New Yorker magazine article, 'A Murder Foretold', by David Grann.

The piece tells the true story of a man who is gunned down during escalating violence in Guatemala, and he leaves behind a videotape after his death implicating the president and the First Lady. But a special prosecutor searches for the truth behind the murder.

Damon has been linked to director roles in the past and came close with last year's 'Promised Land', which he ended up starring in but not helming due to scheduling conflicts.
