Matt Damon reveals that one of the reasons that he returned to the Bourne franchise was because the loyal fan base wanted to see him reprise the role.

Damon will return as the title character in Jason Bourne and this will be the fourth time that he has starred in the action franchise.

The movie sees the popular actor reunite with director Paul Greengrass for their first film project together since Green Zone.

Speaking about returning to the role, Damon told Total Film: "People would come up (to me) on the street and ask, 'Are you guys going to make another one?'

"I've been in the movie business long enough to realise what a gift that is. Having an audience that is actually there and really wants to see something is not to be taken lightly."

Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Vincent Cassel are some of the big new names on the cast list while Julia Stiles is set to reprise the role of Nicky.

It was back in 2007 when we last saw Damon take on this role in The Bourne Ultimatum, which brought the trilogy to a close and saw the actor and Greengrass walk away from the franchise.

The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum have grossed over $945 million at the global box office and Jason Bourne could be the most successful film in the franchise to date.

Jeremy Renner was introduced as Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy in 2012, but it was a movie that failed to live up to the success of the rest of the franchise.

However, there has been a lot of talk in recent years of Damon and Renner teaming up in a future film. I guess we are going to have to wait and see if that ever happens.

Jason Bourne is set to be one of the must-see blockbuster films of the summer and I cannot wait to see what Damon and Greengrass deliver this time around.

Jason Bourne is released 27th July.
