McCarthy is joined by Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in Paul Feig's remake of the popular 80s action comedy and though she was initially looking forward to getting covered in the sticky substance because it looked "fun", she soon discovered it was a nightmare because it was virtually impossible to get off her skin.

She said: "I thought I was going to love it. When you watched the original, all you wanted was to be slimed. It looked like so much fun.

"Oh God, it was the worst. You couldn't wash it off - that was the mistake I made.

"You'd go in the shower and that made it worse - it would double and reactivate, you know? Any time you came in contact with water, it would reactivate again."

As well as her female co-stars, Melissa - who has daughters Vivian, nine, and Georgette six, with husband Ben Falcone - is joined in the film by Chris Hemsworth, who plays their assistant Kevin, and though she was initially dazzled by his good looks, she soon found he also boasts many other talents, which she found "unfair".

She told heat magazine: "His attractiveness is blinding. It hurts my eyes.

"With Chris, you know he's gorgeous and you know he's one of the nice guys. But he is also one of the best improvisers I've ever worked with.

"He is a funny, funny guy underneath all that man gorgeousness. Which is really unfair, if you ask me.

"It's like, 'C'mon man, you have enough. Don't take funny away from us less-than-average folk'. And he can sing too.

"He started singing one day and he sings like an angel. Right there, I kinda wanted to kill him."
