Assassin's Creed - which is inspired by the hit computer game of the same name - is a movie that has been in the pipeline for a few years and Fassbender has been attached to take on the lead role for some time.

Fassbender is set to take on the central role of bartender Desmond Miles and is also on board to produce the film. Fassbender has been thrown into the process of developing scripts and the project for the first time and he has wanted nothing more than to get it right.

When asked about the delay in getting Assassin's Creed made, the actor said: "You say it's a long time but what I've found-it's all new to me but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time. It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year, we'll be filming in September."

Justin Kurzel is set to be in the director's chair for the film, while Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Michael Lesslie have penned the screenplay. The movie will see Fassbender reunite with Kurzel - who has just finished working with on a new adaptation of Macbeth.

Kurzel grabbed everyone's attention when he made his feature film directorial debut back in 2011 with Snowtown - Macbeth will be the first time we have seen him back in the director's chair since that debut. Assassin's Creed is set to be the biggest film of Kurzel career to date.

Marion Cotillard has also been linked with a role in Assassin's Creed - she also worked with both Fassbender and Kurzel on Macbeth.

As for Fassbender, he is set to return to the big screen this summer in Slow West, which will be his first film since the huge success of X-Men: Days of Future Past last summer. Fassbender is currently filming X-Men: Apocalypse, where he will reprise the role of Magneto. This will be the third X-Men film for the actor and will see Bryan Singer back in the director's chair.

We are going to be seeing plenty of Fassbender on the big screen this year as he has also completed work on Trespass Against Us, Weightless, The Light Between Oceans and Steve Jobs.

Fassbender is set take on the role of Jobs in the biopic about the late CEO of Apple Inc, which is directed by Danny Boyle and will also star Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels.

Assassin's Creed has a UK release date of 30th December 2016.
