Elysium

Neill Blomkamp says that he has completed work on Elysium but finds it strange that the film will sit on a shelf until the end of the summer.

Blomkamp makes his long awaited second feature film outing with this movie, which comes after the huge success of District 9.

This time around he has teamed up with Matt Damon and Elysium is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.

In an email chat with The Province the director said: "Elysium is basically done at the end of February. I have some straggling VFX shots that go into April but it’s almost done. The stuff looks absolutely amazing."

"It’s kind of weird that it sits on a shelf and doesn’t come out until August 9th but I think a summer release is fantastic for the film."

It was back in 2009 when he made his directorial debut with District 9 and it was a film that went on to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

This new project sees him stick with science fiction as Damon is joined on the cast list by Jodie Foster, William Fichtner and Sharlto Copley.

Elysium is released 20th September.
