Nicolas Cage seems to be starring in movie after movie, which we couldn’t be happier about. His attentive and dedicated performances in all his films is always notable, and his upcoming feature, PIG, will be no different.

Cage has gone from starring in somewhat sizable blockbusters, such as Con Air (1997), Face/Off (1997), and Ghost Rider (2007), to fronting more independent films like Jiu Jitsu (2020) and Willy’s Wonderland (2021).

This choice seems to be working well for the 57-year-old actor, as his new roles seem to be even more perfect for him.

His upcoming movie, PIG, sees Cage star as Rob, a man who lives alone in a secluded wooded area; unless you count his beloved truffle pig. When his porcine friend is taken from him, Rob embarks on a mission to save her before it’s too late.

To get his foraging pig back home, Rob must return to his past in Portland, which may stir up some less than happy memories.

Rob appears to be a man potentially cast out by society, and his move to live in the woods may be the result of force, rather than choice. He seems like the classic loner; someone who prefers the company of anyone but humans.

Alex Wolff (Jumanji franchise, Hereditary) stars alongside Cage as Amir, supposedly the only person who cares about him.

Altitude Films has recently released a short scene from PIG, in which Cage’s character Rob and Amir, who he describes as his “ride” converse in anger about their situation; that being two men on the hunt for a truffle pig.

The clip shows the two arguing, or more accurately, shows Amir shouting at Rob for not showing him enough respect. Rob is a quiet, calculating and seemingly clever man, as he does not engage in the argument, but simply waits for Amir to calm down.

While the almost two-minute-long clip shows only a short corridor, Amir’s anger and Rob’s calm demeanour, it does give us a glimpse of what we can expect from this movie; Cage will be taking the lead in a thoughtful and unique performance, walking the high road above other characters.

The inclusion of Wolff’s character is so clearly important, as he is there to show how even after Rob’s move to the woods and his clandestine style of living, he still has morals and love to give, even if only to a pig.

Cage always gives 110% in any project, and with this brand-new role and a great co-star, there is no doubt that the actor will deliver a stellar performance here.

Little White Lies has stated that PIG is ‘Cage’s most thoughtful and restrained performance’, painting Cage in a very positive light.

PIG will be in cinemas from August 20th, 2021, and on digital platforms from August 23rd, 2021.
