From director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, Miss Sloane), comes a tale of deception and wit in an extraordinary story starring Colin Firth (Kingsman franchise, Pride and Prejudice).

Warner Bros. Pictures have recently released both the poster and interesting trailer for 2022 film, Operation Mincemeat. The movie is set in 1943, in the midst of the second World War, and requires a great deal of misdirection.

The Allies are insistent on breaking Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe; a plan to directly assault Sicily is formed. However, they face a looming problem: how do they protect a colossal invasion for from a potentially gruesome slaughter?

The weight of the impending issue falls on two exceptionally smart officers, Ewen Montagu (Firth), and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfayden), to think up the most awe-inspiring and disinformation plan of the war, focused on the most improbable and implausible type of agent: a dead man.

Operation Mincemeat is the exceptional, mind-blowing, true story of an idea which would hope to alter the course of war; logic must be discounted, innumerable lives are risked, and the nerves of those at the helm of it all are tested to breaking point.

The trailer for Operation Mincemeat showcases a wonderfully sophisticated style; the shots are rather beautiful, and the story is revealed (with the absence of spoilers) in a clever, interesting way. Those who are not usually fans of war films may still be drawn in by this trailer.

The images released by Warner Bros. are just as exciting, as we see Firth lead the charge as he walks ahead of his colleagues; the visuals for Operation Mincemeat appear to be stunning, which should be well-reflected in the quality of the movie, which in its own right has a brilliant story to work from.

Firth is known for his gentle yet commanding presence, shown in films such as Kingsman: The Secret Service; his character in that 2014 feature, Harry, was a kind and generous man, but knew when to tell it how it was and when to get tough with others.

Operation Mincemeat appears to be providing the 61-year-old actor with another chance to do just that, but with the threat of war and the need for lying dialled up to 11.

The trailer also shows the wonderful cast Firth leads, including Kelly Macdonald (Nanny McPhee), Penelope Wilton (Shaun of the Dead), Jason Isaacs (The Patriot), Johnny Flynn (Emma), with Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin), and Mark Gatiss (Sherlock and Doctor Who TV series).

Operation Mincemeat will be in cinemas in January, 2022.
