Nicolas Cage is well-known for his outlandish yet iconic roles, such as Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider, Ben Gates in National Treasure, and more recently, as the janitor in Willy’s Wonderland. Say what you like about him, but you can’t deny he loves his craft.

Today (13th July, 2021), Altitude Media Group has released the trailer for Cage’s newest venture, Pig. This will be Michael Sarnoski’s debut feature fil,.

Altitude Media Group is the independent UK based studio led by Will Clarke chairman and joint-CEO with Andy Mayson, comprising of Altitude Film Production, Altitude Film Sales with Managing Director Mike Runagall, and Altitude Film Distribution.

Cage stars as Rob, a man who lives in the quiet of the Oregonian woods with his prized and beloved truffle pig. But, when his porcine friend is taken from him, Rob must reunite with dark and stressful parts of his Portland past.

The trailer shows Cage and his pig living in the woods, and seeming rather happy as they live far from civilisation; when his pig is stolen, Rob must travel to Portland, a place where he feels uncomfortable and lost, in order to find her.

We see Cage’s character prepare an array of beautiful meals in this first trailer, and it seems that this broken man once had a passion for cooking he has now lost; this, coupled with the idea that he is alone (bar the pig), paves way to the thought that his past really does hide some dark secrets.

The movie also stars Alex Wolff (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Hereditary), who appears to be someone who understands what hurt and pain is, as we see him stood by a grave, signalling that he may have lost someone he loved. He might be the one to pull Rob out if his mad search, or push him harder to find the truth...

While the movie doesn’t seem to be an action-packed journey, the trailer alone shows that so much heart and thought has gone into this feature, and that Cage’s performance by itself makes Pig a film to watch.

Pig is the directorial debut of Michael Sarnoski, whose script is based on a story co-written with Vanessa Block. The film is produced by Dimitra Tsingou, Thomas Benski, Ben Giladi, David Carrico, Adam Paulsen, Dori Rath, Joseph Restaino, Steve Tisch. Block and Cage.

Pig will be in UK and Irish cinemas August 20th, 2021.
