Nicole Kidman in Grace of Monaco

Nicole Kidman in Grace of Monaco

Nicole Kidman says that she was drawn to Grace of Monaco by more than just the chance to play screen icon Grace Kelly.

Kidman is set to play the screen icon in a new film that looks at her life as she steps into the world of royalty. The film sees Kidman team up with director Olivier Dahan, while Arash Amel has penned the screenplay.

And Kidman says that it was Kelly’s decision to give up a lot of her freedom to become a member of the royal family that really intrigued her.

Speaking to Empire the actress said: “I didn’t take the part because I wanted to play Grace Kelly… I read this script and thought it was really strong. I didn’t have a great knowledge of Grace Kelly other than from Hitchcock’s movies. In fact, I hadn’t even seen all her movies, although I have now.

“But what was interesting to me was what she gave up. To marry into something that involves giving up a lot of your freedom, that’s really hard.”

Kidman is joined by an all star cast for the film as Tim Roth, Frank Langella, Derek Jacobi, Parker Posey and Milo Ventimiglia are all also on board.

However, before we see Kidman in Grace of Monaco, she will be back on the big screen in December in Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

She has also completed work on Before I Go To Sleep, The Railway Man and is currently filming Paddington.

Grace of Monaco is out next year.
