Today (February 15th, 2022), Rakuten TV has released the trailer for an intriguing new documentary, which will release in early March of this year (2022).

Ona Carbonell: Starting Over will premiere for free on Rakuten TV, and follows the recent life of Spanish synchronised swimming Olympic medallist, Ona Carbonell.

The upcoming documentary is a personal reflection on Carbonell’s experiences, from becoming a mother, to balancing a demanding athletic career, and family.

The documentary is also set to show Carbonell’s return to competition, and her behind-the-scenes preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Starting Over will follow the Olympian through her regular, daily life, with the documentary being a very intimate reality that is shared by many women from all over the world.

Motherhood will always be a challenging, yet rewarding time in any woman’s life (who chooses to have children), and can be a very big task to take on for Olympic medallists, such as Carbonell.

Carbonell goes through intense training, as well as the lengthy physical and emotional recovery after childbirth; this is mixed with sleepless nights and building stress for Carbonell, as she returns to her career and is now taking care of her son.

"My goal was to return to competition after giving birth, not only as a sporting challenge, but above all as a moral duty,” says Carbonell, “Motherhood is still one of the handicaps that women have in sport and society".

The forthcoming film will record the challenging preparation Carbonell faced while training for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, along with the birth of her son, Kai, and how the global pandemic has plagued the world of sports with uncertainty.

Carbonell makes the reality that many women live through visible, beyond their occupation, and shows society’s views of professional mothers.

The documentary is set to be an emotional, hard-hitting film about the struggles that can be faced by every mother, no matter their class, race or job; everyone has trouble adjusting to change, and Carbonell seems to be an advocate for this mantra.

Ona Carbonell: Starting Over will be streaming for free on Rakuten TV from March 2nd, 2022.
