John Boyega goes from the world of Star Wars to yet another sci-fi adventure this year, starring as Jake Pentecost in Pacific Rim Uprising. This week, a brand new trailer for the film has been revealed, promising a whole slew of action-packed scenes and sequences throughout the upcoming release. You can check out the teaser below:
Pentecost was at one point a promising Jaeger pilot, and with a legendary father thrusting him into the spotlight, he has to deal with the ramifications of the actions his dad took when he gave his own life to secure victory against the Kaiju.
Unwilling to go down the path that he seemed destined for, Pentecost has abandoned all training and become embroiled in a criminal underworld that’s corrupted his mind. When a new threat is unleashed and tears through cities, threatening to bring the world to its knees, it’s him who has to live up to his family’s legacy, with his estranged sister Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) doing her all to persuade him to go to battle.
Leading a generation of new pilots who have dealt with war all their lives, she and her team seek justice for all those who have lost their lives. Uniting together, they’re the only thing standing between their enemies and the ultimate destruction of humanity.
Scott Eastwood also stars in the flick as Pentecost’s rival pilot Lambert, whilst newcomer Cailee Spaeny takes on the role of 15-tear-old hacker Amara. Jing Tian, Burn Gorman and Charlie Day also join the talented roster of actors.
Steven S. DeKnight directs the film, following Guillermo del Toro’s work on the original, and fans are excited to see what the filmmaker brings to the series.
Pacific Rim Uprising comes to cinemas across the UK on March 23, 2018 via Universal.
