Mara has teamed up with Haynes for the first time on new drama Carol, which is a big screen adaptation of the novel The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith.

The actress was on the red carpet in London this week as the movie screened as part of the BFI London Film Festival, where it was one of the movies that wasn't to be missed.

Talking about the director on the red carpet, Mara said: "It was incredible as he is one of the great directors living and working today.

"He is such a kind, open-hearted, warm person who made us feel so safe to do anything and try anything. He is just so incredible at telling stories about women. We are very lucky that he's working and making these films about women."

Carol sees Mara work with Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett for the first time as they play two women who fall in love in the 1950s. Mara takes on the role of Therese, a department store clerk, while Blanchett plays an older and married woman.

Mara's performance is already getting a lot of attention and praise and is being tipped to be in the Oscar race when the nominations are announced next year. This would be the second Oscar nod of Mara's career, having received a Best Actress nomination for her work in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Autumn 2015 is set to be a busy time for the actress as we are also set to see her in Pan, a new interpretation of the Peter Pan story from filmmaker Joe Wright - Mara takes on the role of Tiger Lily in the film.

Mara has also completed work on The Secret Scripture, Blackbird, and Lion. She is currently lending her voice to Kubo and the Two Strings, alongside Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Theron, and Ralph Fiennes.

Carol is released 27th November.
