Gosling and Crowe join forces for the first time for the new crime/comedy, which sees them work with filmmaker Shane Black.

Set in the seventies, Gosling takes on the role of private eye Holland March while Crowe plays enforcer Jackson Healy and Gosling says he knew from one of their early scenes together that it was going to be a good partnership.

Speaking to Collider, Gosling said: "Russell was really great. One of our first scenes together was that bathroom stall scene. I went early to work out the door gag, and I smelled smoke. I looked and Russell was there smoking, and he was very seriously telling me how he thought the door could bounce better.

"We were very seriously having a conversation, while I had my pants around my ankles in a bathroom stall, and I knew it was going to work and that we were going to have fun."

The Nice Guys is only the third feature film for director Black and comes after success with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3.

Gosling and Crowe are joined on the cast list by Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger, Keith David, Margaret Qualley, and Murielle Telio.

The Nice Guys played out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival and is set to be one of the summer movies that you cannot afford to miss.

The Nice Guys is the first time that we have seen Gosling on the big screen since the success of The Big Short. It is going to be another busy year for his as he has already completed work on Weightless and La La Land.

Weightless sees the actor team up with filmmaker Terrence Malick for the first time while La La Land, which is directed by Damien Chazelle and stars Emma Stone, is being tipped as a possible early Oscar contender.

The Nice Guys is released 3rd June.
