Ryan Reynolds sent Hugh Jackman cupcakes in a bid to get him to sign up for the 'Deadpool' sequel.

The 48-year-old actor will portray Wolverine for what he insists is the final time in new movie 'Logan', but his friend has other ideas and is keen to persuade him to return to his clawed mutant alter ego one more time to appear in the highly-anticipated second outing for wise-cracking anti-hero Wade Wilson.

Asked on 'The Project' if his phone is "off the hook" because of calls from Ryan, Hugh replied: "Not only is it off the hook, cupcakes! I mean, come on dude, cupcakes? "

Interviewer Maude Garrett then asked if they were specially-made Deadpool and Wolverine cakes, and he jokingly replied: "Yeah with sprinkles and all that... and love hearts!"

And the Australian actor claimed the gift was a way of Ryan suggesting he wouldn't have to be as toned as usual in his film.

He quipped: "Which is also his way of saying, come on, fatten up buddy."

But it seems an appearance is likely as Hugh is adamant he won't be returning to the Marvel role in the future.

He said: "This is it, there was many days on set where I'm like, 'Good choice!'

"I feel like the athlete who has had a 17-year career and announces his retirement."

And later in the interview, he admitted he'll find it hard to stay in shape as he has nothing to focus on.

He said: "I don't know what will happen now, because I've got nothing on the horizon."

While it has previously been revealed producers are keen to feature the rest of the X-Force mutant black ops squad, which has at times featured Wolverine, Psylocke and Colossus among many other characters, alongside Deadpool, Hugh, 48, recently insisted he wouldn't be involved.

Asked about the possibility of a Wolverine and Deadpool joint project, he added: "I'm hesitating, because I could totally see how that's the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong. I'm at the point where I'm finishing up. In terms of a theory, it's a great idea."

Ryan has previously admitted that making an 'X-Force' movie is his number one "priority" because he is such a fan of the comic book series.

He said: "In the future, if we're doing a bunch more 'Deadpool' movies, we're really going to explore the X-Men a lot. And maybe X-Force. X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in."
