The 53-year-old actress has joined the cast as the Democratic senator whose 11-hour filibuster helped stall an anti-abortion bill in the Texas state house, Variety reports.

Back in 2013, Davis became a national icon when she staged her filibuster - a political procedure where a debate is held over a proposed piece of legislation to delay or prevent a decision being made.

Davis managed to delay the passage of the bill - which included more restrictive abortion regulations for Texas and to close all clinics in the state - beyond the midnight deadline for the end of the legislative session.

The new movie will be produced by Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal through their Escape Artists banner with Mario Correa penning the script.

Bullock will be next seen starring in the new Netflix thriller 'Bird Box' which tells the story of a woman and a pair of children, who are among the survivors after an alien invasion.

The 'American Horror Story' actress Sarah Paulson will join Oscar-winner alongside Danielle Macdonald, Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar and Lil Rel Howery and John Malkovich.

In the post-apocalyptic movie, the family must navigate their way through a river on a small rowing boat while blindfolded.

The script has been written by Eric Heisserer and Susanne Bier is directing the movie.

Paulson and Bullock recently worked on 'Ocean's Eight' together alongside Rihanna and Paulson admitted they spent much of the time on set trying to stop themselves from singing Rihanna's hits.

She also said her castmates - who also included Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway - would feel an especially strong urge to hum Rihanna tunes whenever she would turn around and look at them.
