Sigourney Weaver has revealed that Neill Blomkamp is on board for the new Alien movie.

While no cast members have officially been announced, Weaver featured in a piece of concept art that was released by Blomkamp last week - I have my fingers tightly crossed that we are going to get to see her take on the role of Ripley one last time.

And Weaver, who worked with Blomkamp on Chappie is excited that the director is on board and gets to fulfil a childhood dream.

Speaking to the Radio Times, the actress said: "I'm so excited about Neill, because Neill is like you guys! He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, [as] he watched them so much.

"I love the fact that Neill's fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see."

The concept art also featured Michael Bien, who took on the role of Cpl. Dwayne Hicks in Aliens back in 1986.

Blomkamp is no stranger to the science fiction genre with the likes of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie already under his belt. The new Alien movie will be the fourth feature of his career and the biggest movie project he has ever directed.

We wait to see who will be on the cast list but I would love to see Weaver involved once more as Ellen Ripley is one of the most iconic female characters of all time.

As for Weaver, Chappie was the last time that we saw her on the big screen but she has already completed work on A Monster Calls. The movie is directed by J.A. Bayona and will see Weaver star alongside Toby Kebbell, Liam Neeson, and Felicity Jones.

Weaver is also set to return to the Avatar franchise with the three sequels that are on the horizon.

The latest Alien movie is set to hit the big screen in 2017.
