Simon Pegg is set to make an appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Pegg has been linked with a role in the film ever since it was announced that Star Trek director J.J. Abrams was set to direct - however, both denied these rumours.

But it seems that all of the whispers were indeed true as Pegg appeared in a behind the scenes video that was screened at Comic Con over the weekend.

Making a surprise appearance in the behind the scenes video, Pegg says: "My whole life has lead to this moment. I'm in heaven."

Later on in the piece he appears in come kind of alien costume and says: "It's Star Wars. I burn for Star Wars."

Just what kind of character and where Pegg will fit into the story is - like a lot of things - being kept under warps. One thing does look certain, we will not be seeing Pegg's face in the film.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be one of the biggest movies of this year and this brand new featurette takes us behind the scenes:

The Force Awakens sees Abrams take over the Star Wars franchise for the first time, while Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, and Lupita Nyong'o are some of the other new names on board.

However there are some franchise favourites on board as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Peter Mayhew are back as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca.

2015 is set to be a very busy year for Pegg as we are set to see him reprise the role of Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and filming on Star Trek Beyond is also under way.

Star Trek Beyond is the third film in the new series and will see Pegg back as Scotty - he has also had a hand in penning the screenplay.

Justin Lin has taken over the director's chair, while Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban are just some of the other familiar faces returning.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released 18th December.
