In brand new reports from THR, it’s being reported that Marvel characters Black Cat and Silver Sable – made famous for their appearances in Spider-Man properties throughout the years – will be the focus of a brand new movie for Sony, with screenwriter Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) hired to bring the ladies to life on the big screen.

Marvel Comics' Black Cat

Clearly inspired by DC Comics character Catwoman, Black Cat is a petty criminal with a romantic history with the web-slinger himself who goes by the real life name of Felicia Hardy. Created back in 1979, she has already hit the big screen as part of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where she was played by Felicity Jones. It’s understood however that this character will be played by someone new.

The lesser-known Silver Sable was created in 1985 and has to this point never been brought to live action, so it will be fantastic to see what she gets up to in the planned Sony flick.

The news comes following confirmation that Sony would move ahead with their planned Venom movie, set for release in October of 2018.

Directors are now being sought out by the studio for both projects, with the Black Cat and Silver Sable project aiming to get off the ground with production this coming autumn.

The Spider-Man universe is Sony’s only comic book property, so in a world where superhero flicks are raking in big numbers at the box office, it’s unsurprising that they want to cash in on that. What’s odd however is that they’re now building up a new Spider-Man universe without the man himself.
