The Force Awakens took a further $41.6 million at the box office to hold onto the top spot but it was truly threatened for the first time by the Leonardo DiCaprio film.

The Revenant jumped up from twenty-three last week to this week's number two. The Revenant sees DiCaprio take on the central role as he teams up with filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu.

The movie was the big winner at the Golden Globes last night as it won Best Motion Picture/Dram, Best Actor and Best Director. DiCaprio is now the hot favourite to scoop the Best Actor Oscar, which would be the first of his career.

Daddy's Home slipped a single place to number two and horror movie The Forest was the highest and only new entry at number four. The Forest see Natalie Dormer take on the central role in the film as she teamed up filmmaker Jason Zada for the first time.

Sisters was down on place from last week's number four to round off the top five. The Hateful Eight fell out of the top five as it dropped three places to number six; if was the first of three films to fall three places this week.

The Big Short was the only none-mover as it stayed put at number seven. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip and Joy were also down three places as they slipped to eight and nine.

Concussion, which sees Will Smith return to the big screen, rounded off the top ten and was down just a single place on last year.
