There have been some rumours doing the rounds for the past few months, but did anybody really think Emperor Palpatine would be making a comeback to close out the new trilogy of Star Wars movies that have been hitting the big screen as of late? Turns out those prophesising the comeback were right, as the first trailer for the film ends with the iconic laugh of the man himself before fading to black. Check out the teaser in full below:
The trailer was first shown at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, which was moderated by Stephen Colbert and featured guests such as director and writer of Episode IX, J.J. Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy, and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Oscar Isaac, Billy Dee Williams, Naomi Ackie, Joonas Suotamo and Anthony Daniels. Even droids BB-8 and D-0 turned up!
Parts of the trailer show Rey (Ridley) on a mysterious desert planet where she's being chased down, repaired lightsaber in her hand. She also has Hans Solo's gun still strapped to her belt.
Elsewhere, we see Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) leading a group of Stormtroopers against what we think will be members of the Resistance. He looks as powerful as ever, and actually gets the upper hand in the battle we see him taking part in.
Finn (Boyega) and Poe (Isaac) are also spotted on a desert island; likely the same one we saw Rey on prior. Could it be that this spot is now one that the Resistance have turned into a base of operations? Fans who ship the pair will just be happy to see them together in more scenes!
With jetpack-wearing Stormtroopers, crashing ships, medals and more, this culmination to many years of hard work since 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, could be one of the most action-packed Star Wars flicks of all time.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to come to cinemas across the UK on December 19, 2019.
