Straight Outta Compton Tops U.S. Box Office For A Third Week

Straight Outta Compton has made it three weeks at the top of the U.S. box office.

The NWA biopic took a further $13,2 million over the weekend to hold off the competition in what was a quiet week at the box office.

So far, the movie has grossed $140.9 million at the global box office, easily making back its rather modest $28 million budget. However, the film didn't have too much competition for the top spot in the last weekend of August.

The War Room was the highest new entry as it opened at number two this week. War Room is the first directorial outing for Alex Kendrick since Courageous back in 2011 and teamed up with producing partner Stephen Kendrick to pen the screenplay.

The movie, which was one of the big surprises on the chart this weekend, took $11 million to open ahead of blockbuster Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was down a single place this week as it dropped from two to number three. The movie is one of the big hits of the summer, taking $479 million at the global box office so far.

No Escape, which sees Owen Wilson team up with Pierce Brosnan, was new at four, while horror movie Sinister 2 was down two places from three to number five.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. fell out of the top five this week as the Guy Ritchie film slipped a single place to number six. Hitman: Agent 47 was also moving down this week as it dropped from four to number seven; the movie was this week's biggest faller.

The Gift, which is one of my favourite films of the summer, was down one at seven, while Jurassic World was back inside the top ten at number eight. The movie has grossed over $642 million in the U.S alone this summer.

Ant-Man rounded off the top ten this week as it slipped two spots from number eight.
