Luc Besson says Taken 3 is the best film in the Taken trilogy.

Filming on Taken 3 is currently underway and will see Liam Neeson reprise the role of ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills.

Oliver Megaton is in the director’s chair for the film, while Besson teamed up with Robert Mark Kamen to pen the screenplay.

Speaking to Collider, Besson said: "It's different, but it's very good. It's probably the best of the three for me, in terms of the script. The first one was really not pretentious. It was a small film.

“We were surprised by the success of it because it was honest. Liam [Neeson] was not a super kick-ass actor."

And while this is the third film in the trilogy, Besson went on to say that this movie will not focus on Mills and his family.

“Taken 1 and 2 is, in fact, the same film in two parts. The first act, someone is taken, and the second act is that revenge. You can see the films back to back and they go together.

“The third film is another story that has nothing to do with him and his family. No one is taken. The dog is not taken. It's another story with the same characters."

Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen are returning to their roles of Kim and Lenore, while Forest Whitaker is the big new addition to the cast list. However, the plot for the film is currently being kept under wraps.

Taken 3 is released 8th January 2015.
